The junior class, accompanied by several parents as chaperones, had a tour of the St Anthony Falls Laboratory, adjacent to St Anthony Main in downtown Minneapolis. The laboratory, which is built partly into the cliff adjacent to the Missisippi River, is part of the University of Minnesota. Under the guidance of Dr Christopher Paola, and members of his research group, the juniors learned of the collaborative character of scientific research, saw a wind tunnel for testing wind turbines, and several flumes to hold physical models of river systems and deltas. They experienced a working laboratory as seen through the eyes of those who work there. The scientists were amazed by the knowledge, poise, and wonder of the juniors, and we have been invited back for next year!
