Trinity sophomores took a field trip to the Seagate Technology Research & Development facility in Bloomington last week as a part of their chemistry class. In addition to a tour of the manufacturing process, the students were given talks from Seagate personnel, which emphasized the different ways chemistry is used in the manufacturing process, such as in lubricants, chemical-mechanical polishing, pulling growing silica crystal from molten silica, and atomic sputtering of copper when forming integrated circuits.
