While studying parabolas, the 10th grade girls learned that light encountering a parabolic surface reflects through the focus of the parabola. On Tuesday, they saw this in action using a parabolic mirror. They were gleefully excited when the image outside the window suddenly came into sharp focus and were able to measure the focal length of the mirror.
