Recently, Ms. Abigail Williams and the 10th grade girls discussed Dostoevsky’s novel Crime and Punishment. The name of the protagonist, Raskolnikov, comes from a Russian word meaning “to break or to shatter.” The students aimed to articulate the different ways Raskolnikov is portrayed as a broken or shattered man in the novel.
