Interested in learning about some different ways of making art during our Christian Arts Festival?

Saturday is full of artist workshops for the whole family!

Suminagashi (ongoing) – Join Trinity School teacher, Nick Fox for an introduction to the art of Suminagashi. The process of marbling water, soap, and sumi ink in a small tub and then printing the pattern on a piece of Thai rice paper. Every piece of paper turns out unique and mesmerizing. Easy and fun for all ages and skill levels.

Bookmaking (Class starts at 3:00 pm) – The book is perhaps the most ancient art form that continues to play a significant role in our daily lives today. Join book artist Andrew Gaylord for an introduction to the art of bookmaking. You will consider a range of bookmaking styles, then, using methods and tools commonly used to bind manuscripts in the 14th – 18th centuries; you will make an octavo book with a long-stitch binding to take home with you. Class size is limited. Reservations: email [email protected], subject line: “Reserve a Class – Bookmaking”

Art of the Silhouette (ongoing) – In 1926 film director Lotte Reiniger animated and directed the oldest surviving feature-length animated film, The Adventures of Prince Achmed. The movie, along with most of Reiniger’s work, is entirely silhouette. A master of the medium, Reiniger constructed fantastical and elaborate animated worlds by simply layering and manipulating paper cutouts. Working within these tight constraints she produced art of beauty, delicacy, and expression. Join Trinity School teacher Andrew Carr in cutting out and recreating some of Reiniger’s classic characters, designs, and patterns –and in creating your own original silhouette compositions.
