The Trinity 7th and 8th grade boys classes battled one another on the Trinity soccer fields today, each class attempting out-maneuver the other’s phalanx formation. The senior boys, armed with sodden “squishy” balls, provided peltast support for both sides. To prepare for the engagement, the boys built their own shields and had been practicing formations all semester. Their formations were inspired by the phalanx infantry formation which first appeared in the ancient Greek world in the 7th century BCE. As always, the boys had a blast.
