Dr. William Freiert from Gustavus Adolphus College treated Trinity students to a presentation on local sculptor Paul Granlund. Freiert presented Granlund as a sculptor of the intangible, a mytho-poet, who would reinterpret myth through his sculptures, exploring paradox and polarity. Many of Granlund’s sculptures can be found on display throughout the Twin Cities, and a copy of Granlund’s sculpture of St. Francis of Assisi can be found on display at Gustavus Adolphus College; the original, pictured below, is on display at Viterbo College in Wisconsin. Thank you Dr. Freiert for sharing your insight and passion for Granlund with us.
